Question 1 What is it about research as a career that interests you the most? In which subject area(s) would you like to pursue research? What led you to choose this area of research? Response to Question 1 Research helps me to follow my passions, learn something new, develop my problem-solving abilities and challenge myself in new ways. Working on a new research project gives me a the chance to expand my area of knowledge, improve my problem solving skill. I want to pursue my research in Chemistry (Material chemistry). Materials chemistry includes the use of chemistry to develop and synthesize new kind of materials with physical characteristics that are interesting or potentially useful, such as magnetic, optical, structural or catalytic properties. The characterization, processing , application and molecular-level understanding of these compounds are also drawn my attention to choose it as area of my research. Question 2 Describe any project, or laboratory experiment, or research-oriented training programme that you have been involved in. Please highlight the aspects that you particularly enjoyed. Response to Question 2 Topic: Synthesis and Characterization of magnetic nanocomposite for environmental application Rapid industrialization has led to massive environmental pollution, resulting in damage to the ecosystem and human health. Dyes are nonbiodegradable toxins that possess that carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. With the rising scarcity of water, these toxins need to be removed from waste water bodies economically and efficiently. Among all these classical waste water treatments adsorption is the most promising method. However it is a challenge to design adsorbent materials with the high specific area and appropriate chemical functionality to selectively adsorb toxins. My M.Sc. Project was to synthesize and characterization of adsorbent materials GO@Fe3O4-MnO2 to study the removal of two dyes malachite green and tartrazine. The adsorption characteristics of these toxins were systematically investigated. Adsorption and degradation of dyes were investigated by varying the various parameters like adsorbent dose, contact time, surfactants solution pH, temperature, Ultrasonication, H2O2 and sunlight. The experimental data were analysed based on different kinetic models. The adsorption isotherms were analysed based on Langmuir and Freundlich models. The synthesized nanocomposite was finally used for the real water samples. The used nanocomposite was separated using external magnet and recycled used properly. I enjoyed synthesis, characterization and application of nanocomposite for dye removal. Question 3 State the reasons on why you want to opt for JNCASR for your advanced research / academic studies. Response to Question 3 1.Motivation for research 2.A good academic environment 3.Plenty of opportunity. 4.Cultivating important transferrable skills 5. To become an expert in a particular field |
