It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Subhakanta Das for the Ph.D. program at a prestigious institute like JNCASR, Bangalore. I know him since July 2017, as a teacher at P. G. level. I have seen his talents and abilities not only in the class room but also outside its walls. He is very sincere, honest and hard-working student. He has good knowledge on different branches of physics and he ranks among my best students. He possesses a bright academic record and his grades correctly reflect his academic competence. During his postgraduation, I taught him two theory papers and guided him in two practical papers. As I had observed, he was an active and conscientious member of the class. He challenged the rest of the class to consider issues from new perspectives and often asked very penetrating and important questions. Also, he had shown great interest in doing experiments. His assignments were well-written, well-supported, organized, neat, and timely. It was evident that he really desired to learn more and challenge himself. Again, he has good analytical skills and is very much passionate to do research. He is also an intelligent student with a lively curiosity that makes him dissatisfied with superficial explanation and to search the root cause and appropriate explanation. He has incredible creative energies and a refreshing idealism tempered only enough to accomplish what needs to be done. Moreover, he is exceptionally well-organized and extremely quick to grasp new concepts. Since Mr. Subhakanta Das is an excellent and efficient student, and always eager to pursue new knowledge and challenge, I strongly recommend him for the Ph.D. program at your JNCASR, Bangalore and wish him all success in his life.

Question 1
What is it about research as a career that interests you the most? In which subject area(s) would you like to pursue research? What led you to choose this area of research?

Response to Question 1
I have always thought physics as the study of two separate fields. One which explain phenomena of everyday life and another which could not be fathomed in everyday life. From my school, I am interested in experimental physics work and its implications on society. So, in my PhD I wish to do research on condensed matter experimental physics which is much useful for society and industrial purposes. Again I have great interest on condensed matter physics and thus I will work with my level best by enjoying my job and giving my full efforts to the research work, if I will get an opportunity to do research in JNCASR. Doing research on the topics of my interest is an ambition of my life.
I have completed my master course from Fakir Mohan University, Odisha which is one of the best institute for master's in physics in Odisha.. Every branch of physics attracts me to know further. So, I can work on any field if I got PhD position in JNCASR. JNCASR is my first choice for PhD studies because of its reputation as a center of learning and research work. I look forward to the work that students are required to conduct and I hope to focus on my research work. Additionally, a close mentorship(supervisor) will enable me to learn techniques quickly and conduct relevant experiments quickly.

My research of interest are in these fields:
1. Superconductivity.
2. Materials for different device and optoelectronic application.
3. Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology.
4. For thin film in Solar, supercapacitor and sensor application.

Thanking You...
Subhakanta Das.

Question 2
Describe any project, or laboratory experiment, or research-oriented training programme that you have been involved in. Please highlight the aspects that you particularly enjoyed.

Response to Question 2
I had done my MSc project on Home Automation Using Arduino under the guidance of Dr. Rajib Biswal. This is an experimental project on Arduino. By seeing the use of Arduino in our usual life, me and my groupmate planned to do the project. Now-a-days almost everybody of us using smart phones, so my project aim is to control all electronics appliances by using your phone without touching the switches used in the room. Thus, anyone having security code and one application can control the electronic gadgets at anyplace in the home. It also includes security verification at the gates, vehicle parking restrictions and many other many features. The Project was highly appreciated by all the faculty members.
I have done Laboratory experiments on Condensed matter Physics, Electronics and different computational programming languages under the guidance of our highly talented lectures. We all have done our experiments properly and our mentors helped us a lot in this. I have given seminars on many topics of interest during my graduation and post graduation time. Thank you...

Question 3
State the reasons on why you want to opt for JNCASR for your advanced research / academic studies.

Response to Question 3
The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research is one of the premier institutes in India. It is known for its excellent, innovative, and collaborative interdisciplinary approach toward conducting scientific research. JNCASR is my first choice for PhD studies because of its reputation as a center of learning and research work. I will be very grateful, If I am getting an opportunity to do research in such a reputed institute like JNCASR. The Research facilities and especially the well organized and developed laboratories of JNCASR makes itself unique from other institutes which attracts the attention of many research scholar like me to become a small part of this reputed and prestigious institute of India.

Declaration
I declare that all the information and entries of marks are correct to the best of my knowledge and belief. If admitted, I shall obey all the rules and regulations of the Centre.
