During her stay of ten months with us, she worked on “Transesterification as a plausible new route for the synthesis of PLGA”. She demonstrated high level of enthusiasm and commitment in the research topic during the course of her project. She is very well aware of the required qualities to be a good researcher and how to address a research question systematically. She is very confident at performing experiments independently. She is a quick learner, which helped her to adapt to industrial laboratory practices very fast. During the project, she faced several challenges in the synthesis of condensation polymers and their analysis using different analytical methods. With her constant efforts and determination, she tried to overcome most of the problems and successfully completed her project. Besides being a good researcher, she is also a good team player. She actively participated in all our group activities and shared group responsibilities along with other lab members. I believe Harshita with her intelligence, sincerity and pleasing personality would be an asset to your group and I highly recommend her for the doctoral position at your institute.

Question 1 What is it about research as a career that interests you the most? In which subject area(s) would you like to pursue research? What led you to choose this area of research? Response to Question 1 I am interested in energy storage devices, their applications in different fields along with renewable sources. I want to pursue my further studies in the area of synthesis of materials for energy storage devices and characterization of these materials. There are a lot of methods mentioned in the area which are ecofriendly and renewable such as conversion of biomass fro energy application,CO2 reduction etc. , which is very much needed in today's world so I want to join PhD at the institute for a purpose keeping an eye on environmental aspects also. Question 2 Describe any project, or laboratory experiment, or research-oriented training programme that you have been involved in. Please highlight the aspects that you particularly enjoyed. Response to Question 2 I joined Prof. Satish Ogale's lab at NCL-PUNE during my coursework, here I learnt about energy storage devices and material synthesis for these devices. Later for my final year master's project I got selected at Solvay Chemicals Vadodara, India, this was an industrial exposure in the field of biodegradable polymers which involved synthesis and characterization as well. While working on these projects I gained knowledge about various characterization techniques such as NMR, X-RAY, FESEM, TLC, HPLC, IR , GPC.TGA etc. This academically extensive and diverse coursework has benefitted me by introducing me to various aspects of chemistry and scientific research. It has also helped me grasp the importance of interdisciplinary research in solving the various problems faced by industries while trying to realize the ultimate goal of sustainable prospering humankind. Through all my experiences in pursuing research till now, I have come across the multifaceted aspects of Chemical Sciences. Question 3 State the reasons on why you want to opt for JNCASR for your advanced research / academic studies. Response to Question 3 JNACSR is one of the premier institute in India known for its research and innovation in various fields. I want to be a part of the institute as a PhD student for a greater experience in the above mention fields or related fields. Consequently, it will help me in understanding the underlying chemistry in addition to contributing towards a useful application, beneficial to the community.
