Question 1
What is it about research as a career that interests you the most? In which subject area(s) would you like to pursue research? What led you to choose this area of research?

Response to Question 1
Being from Biochemistry and Microbiology background, I have studied experiment based and conceptual biological modules like cell biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology in details. During the course of graduation and post-graduation, these interrelated topics have given me the opportunity to visualise how do different cells (prokaryotic or eukaryotic origin) lead their life sometimes in cooperation with others or sometimes in solitary. Cellbiology is the module that had attracted me the most. Most of the topics of Cellbiology, be it the maintenance of membrane potential and firing of action potential or be it the Signalling system, all these things have given me the immense interest to know more and more about Cell. So, the only way through which I can address my interest is ‘Research’.
The subject I would like to opt in my research career is Cellbiology and later on System biology.
The first thing that led me to chose this subject is the interdisciplinary nature of biological science, nowadays we read different signalling system mostly as different modules, but it is well known that all of these modules are connected to each other by some means. Now as an aspirant cellbiology student, questions arise how these systems fires up at right time at right place and sometimes does its own job and sometimes connects over other.

Question 2
Describe any project, or laboratory experiment, or research-oriented training programme that you have been involved in. Please highlight the aspects that you particularly enjoyed.

Response to Question 2
After M.Sc I was selected as Project-JRF in NIBMG under Dr. Bhaswati Pandit, where I worked on a DBT funded project named "Genomics Driven Dissection Of Susceptibility and drug Resistance On Pulmonary Tuberculosis". I attended the course works there and got the chance to learn R and Unix. I had worked in both wet lab and dry lab, my wet lab experiments were on Bacterial culture, Cell Culture, PCR, SDS PAGE. In dry lab I had analysed a NGS data of 16S rDNA sequencing result by Linux and later on last November I presented my findings in a poster format in EMBO conference.
During M.Sc I was DBT RISE awardee and joined Bose Institute, Kolkata during Summer Project under Dr. Abhrajyoti Ghosh. The project title was " Isolation Identification and Characterisation Of Haloalkaliphiles from Sunderbans Soil Sample.

Question 3
State the reasons on why you want to opt for JNCASR for your advanced research / academic studies.

Response to Question 3
Nowadays everyone aims to do interdisciplinery research work and I found JNCASR perferctly satisfactory for that. Previously I have done genomics related works and now I am eyeing for cell biology, molecular biology based works and JNCASR provides Bioimaging, Proteomics, Genomics, animal facility etc under the same roof. Being attracted by high quality reseach works, I found JNCASR to be a good place for career making.
