Question 1 What is it about research as a career that interests you the most? In which subject area(s) would you like to pursue research? What led you to choose this area of research?
Response to Question 1 While talking about why I want to go into this field I never use the word 'interest', because a person can be interested in lots of things but don't pursue it as a career like I have an interest in writing poetries but I have no intention of making a career in this field. I want to research because I know that whatever problems this human society is facing right now, their solutions could be found at places that we call laboratories. Right now I am eagerly seeking opportunities to research in Medicinal Chemistry and if honestly answering I want to research in this field computationally. I had chosen this area of research because a subject related to medicinal chemistry was in my fourth semester, though I didn't study it as an area of research, but, what this pandemic time had taught us is that there lies a lot more that needs to be done in this field and I want to be one of the persons who had or are contributing in this area of research.
Question 2 Describe any project, or laboratory experiment, or research-oriented training programme that you have been involved in. Please highlight the aspects that you particularly enjoyed.
Response to Question 2 In my second year of masters I was doing a project under the guidance of Prof. Nalin Pant where we were trying to stabilize the boat conformation of cyclohexane by substituting it at 1,2,3,4 positions with different substitution patterns of isopropyl and methyl. Honestly, I wasn't aware that this conformation can be stabilized (though I was aware of norbornane and twistane where a higher energy conformation could be found through covalent restrictions) so I can say that the project started at a very high level of enthusiasm and excitement. What I most loved about this project was that there were times when we could not found any conclusions but still, the totally different behaviour of molecules just by changing substitution pattern was enough encouraging to move forward to bring out the results
Question 3 State the reasons on why you want to opt for JNCASR for your advanced research / academic studies.
Response to Question 3 Honestly, when I was in the first year of B.Sc. chemistry, I came across a senior who gave an interview at JNCASR and he told us that interview was having a comparatively tougher level and it's really not easy to crack it, there I decided that I would give the interview here for Ph.D. Later when I came to know about the faculty of JNCASR I determined to be a part of this institute and work under the finest researchers.
